Maui Wow!

We zijn inmiddels aangekomen in Hawaï, op het eiland Maui om precies te zijn. We zijn hier 4 nachten en gaan reizen dan door naar het eiland Kauai.

Om maar meteen met de deur in huis te vallen.... Maui is WOW!!! 😍

Een prachtig eiland en duidelijk anders dan de rest van de VS, maar toch ook weer niet.

Na aankomt werden we opgewacht door Billie en Reiner, waar we de komende dagen samen mee optrekken hier. We reden door naar Lahaina waar ons hotel staat.

Een prachtige plek met een mooie suite met 2 slaapkamers.

We have arrived in Hawaii, on the island of Maui to be precise. We will be here for 4 night and will move to the island of Kauai after that.

To start with the obvious... Maui is WOW!!! 😍

A beautiful island that's different from the rest of the USA, but then again not.

After we landed, Billie and Reiner waited for us at the airport. We will be traveling with them for the next couple of days. They drove us to Lahaina where our hotel is.

A very nice place with a beautiful 2 bedroom suite.

Na een prima nacht werden we door het tijdsverschil met San Francisco al op tijd wakker.
Na het ontbijt gingen we op weg. Eerst een bezoek aan een geitenboerderij en daarna naar de top van de vulkaan Haleakalā.

After a good night sleep we woke up early because of the time difference with San Francisco.
And after breakfast we went on our way. First to visit a goat and dairy farm and after that to the top of the vulcano Haleakalā.

Maui bestaat uit twee vulkanen en de Haleakalā is de grootste van de twee en beslaat 75% van het eiland. De rit naar de top is fantastisch om te rijden en is erg populair om de zon op te zien komen.

Wij deze de rit overdag, maar deze was minstens zo indrukwekkend.

Maui contains out of two vulcanos and the Haleakalā is the biggest of the two and is covering 75% of the island. The drive to the top is just fantastic and is very populair for looking at the sunrise.

We did the drive in daylight, but it was just as impressive.

Tijdens de rit van de weg langs het strand tot aan de top, rij je door verschillende lagen. Je begint bij het droge deel onderin en komt onderweg boerderijen, eucalyptusbomen, groene weides en daarna een Mars landschap tegen.

During the drive from the road at the beach al the way at the top, you will drive through different layers. Starting at the dryer part at the bottom you will see farms, eucalythus trees, green meadows and a Mars like landscape.

Het enige wat je op Mars (wellicht) niet tegen komt zijn de zilverzwaarden. Een heel aparte plant die alleen op deze vulkaan en nergens anders ter wereld voor komt. (Op Mars ook niet waarschijnlijk)

The only thing you (probably) won't see on Mars are the Silverswords. A very strange plant that only lives on this volcano and nowhere else in the world. (Probably on Mars either)
