Oregon - Alis volat propriis

Oregon is één van de meest diverse staten van de VS.
Je hebt er bergen, meren, kustlijnen, prairies en nog véél meer.

En het is er rustig qua Europese toeristen, want die zie je er niet veel.

Waarom? 

Geen idee, want ze weten niet wat ze missen. Misschien komt het omdat Oregon een beetje uit de route ligt.

Als je vliegt op San Francisco, dan gaan de meesten richting LA en San Diego en daarna richting Arizona.

Als je vliegt op Seattle, dan reizen de meesten richting de grote parken zoals Yellowstone.

Men moet keuzes maken en Oregon delft dan vaak het onderspit.

Wij hebben de afgelopen twee dagen de kust gevolgd hier en gaan morgen verder naar het zuiden en steken dan de grens met Californië over. Drie dagen rijden door deze prachtige staat.

Oregon heeft als motto: 'Alis volat propriis', wat zoiets betekend als; 'Zij vliegt met haar eigen vleugels'.

Klinkt toch een stuk vrolijker dan, 'Ik worstel en kom boven'. 😎

Oregon is one of the most diverse states in the USA.

There are mountains, lakes, coastlines, prairies and a lot more.

And it's not packed with European tourists.

Why?

No idea, because they don't know what they are missing.
Maybe it's because Oregon is a bit 'out of the way'.

When you fly to San Francisco most people travel to LA and San Diego or East to Arizona.
When you fly to Seattle, the obvious route leads to the great parks like Yellowstone.

People make choices, and Oregon usually doesn't come out on top.

The last two days we followed the coastline here and tomorrow we're driving further south, crossing the border with California. Three days travelling through this beautiful state.

Oregon's motto is: 'Alis volat propriis', which translates as; 'She flies with her own wings'.

Sounds a lot more poetic than, 'In God we trust' or the Dutch; 'I shall maintain'. 😎

De eigenaar is blijkbaar nog nooit in Nederland geweest, maar hij krijgt een dikke 👍 voor de moeite.

Aardige mensen trouwens hier in Oregon.

Gisteren in Newport bij de oceaan naar de zonsondergang gekeken en met een man op het bankje daar een spontaan gesprek over van alles en nog wat gehad. Hele leuke manier om de zon te zien verdwijnen.

Diezelfde avond bij de coffeeshop met Tim (een tekenaar) gesproken die daar gratis zijn kunstwerkjes uitdeelde. Zijn aanstekelijke optimisme zorgde ook daar voor een leuk gesprek.

Nice people by the way those Oregonians.

Yesterday in Newport we watched the sundown with a local man on the bench there. And spontaniously a long conversation evolved. A fun way to see the sun disappear.

The same night at a coffee place, we had an encounter with Tim, an artist who was giving away some of his drawings for a smile and a chat. Thanks to his catching optimism we had a fun conversation there too.

Toepasselijker kan haast niet zou je zeggen.
Vanmiddag wel toen de zon scheen, maar nu met de wolken erbij was het meer Grey Beach.
Ook prachtig trouwens, maar wel fris. 😅
